War Dungeon — Generic Content Page Build Brief

BBWD27 Build Brief War Dungeon

Page intent

The War Dungeon Generic Content Page is the substrate for every long-form static surface — Privacy Policy, Terms & Conditions, Cookie Policy, Returns Policy, Shipping Info, FAQ, About-the-Loyalty-Programme, and any future utility page that doesn’t get its own bespoke template. Three visitor jobs: find the specific section they need (table of contents), read long-form copy without distraction, navigate to a related page when they’re done. The page is utility-first — atmosphere stays present but the legibility of long-form copy is the load-bearing decision. This brief authors the pattern; Phase-2 utility pages inherit it.

Subject content (for the mockup)

Render the page with the Returns & Refunds Policy as the concrete content example (chosen because it’s customer-facing, mid-length, and naturally has 5–7 sectioned subheadings — exercises the TOC pattern realistically). Sections: Returning a recent order, Damaged or wrong items, Pre-orders & deposits, Refund timing, Items we can’t take back, How to send something back, If something goes wrong. Each section has 2–4 paragraphs of placeholder shopkeeper-voice policy copy. Last updated date stamped at the top of the body. Sticky TOC sidebar on the right with anchor links to each section, current-section highlighted as the visitor scrolls. Related pages strip at the foot linking to Shipping Info + Contact + How-To Guides hub.

Mandatory structure (top to bottom)

  1. Pre-header announcement bar — REUSE announcement-bar.
  2. Global header — REUSE site-header.
  3. Breadcrumbs — REUSE breadcrumbs. Home / Returns & Refunds Policy.
  4. Content-page hero — REUSE content-page-hero (newly authored on BBWD25). Eyebrow (“Customer information”), title (“Returns & Refunds Policy”), lede paragraph in shopkeeper voice (“Plain English on getting your money back, swapping a damaged box, or sending something back that didn’t ride the way you’d hoped.”). Plated-frame photograph optional — for utility pages the right column may be empty / pattern-only.
  5. Last-updated stamp band — Compact one-line band beneath the hero: stamped roundel + “Last updated 2026-06-08” in palatino-linotype small-caps. NEW block last-updated-stamp — utility surface convention shared across every Phase-2 policy page.
  6. Section divider — REUSE gear-divider.
  7. PAIRED ROW — Long-form body LEFT (≈⅔), Sticky TOC sidebar RIGHT (≈⅓):
    • LEFT: Long-form body content on light rodeo background (light atmospheric breather — same legibility logic as MWD5’s Choose Your Game and MWD9’s Recently Viewed). Each section has an anchored H2 in modesto-condensed display with bronze underline rule, followed by 2–4 palatino-linotype body paragraphs. Inline elements styled: links (sienna underline), strong (modesto-condensed inline), em (palatino-linotype italic). NEW block longform-body — distinct from narrative-band (narrative-band is editorial register on dark cowboy with gear-pattern; longform-body is utility register on light rodeo with TOC anchors).
    • RIGHT, STICKY at desktop: TOC sidebar — vertical list of section anchors in modesto-condensed small-caps, current section highlighted with a stamped left-edge marker (small bronze plate). Each anchor click smooth-scrolls to its section. NEW block toc-sidebar.
  8. Section divider — REUSE gear-divider.
  9. Related pages strip — 3-up grid of related page link cards: “Shipping Info”, “Contact us”, “How-To Guides”. Each card has a stamped-roundel icon + page title + small “Read more →” link. REUSE faq-teaser-strip (newly authored on BBWD26) — same structural shape, different content slots. This is a deliberate verbatim reuse to validate the catalogue rule on Generic page authoring.
  10. Trust strip — REUSE trust-strip.
  11. Global footer — REUSE site-footer.

Block reuse intent (conservative — per locked brand rule)

Reused: announcement-bar, site-header, breadcrumbs, content-page-hero (NEW on BBWD25), gear-divider, faq-teaser-strip (NEW on BBWD26, reused here verbatim as the related-pages strip), trust-strip, site-footer, plus primitives (stamped-roundel, btn, eyebrow-stamp, section-head).

NEW blocks expected (3):

  • last-updated-stamp — compact one-line band with a stamped roundel + last-updated date. Convention shared across every utility / policy page.
  • longform-body — long-form copy band on light rodeo with anchored H2s, bronze underline rules, and inline styling. Distinct from narrative-band (different rhetorical register: utility vs editorial; different surface: light vs dark).
  • toc-sidebar — sticky anchor list with scroll-spy current-section highlighting. The pattern Phase-2 utility pages inherit for navigation.

Content principles

  • Legibility is the load-bearing decision. Long-form body sits on light rodeo (not dark cowboy) because dense policy text needs maximum legibility. Methodology dictum is “prune ornament, not type” — gear-pattern stays out of the body band; ornament moves to dividers and the hero.
  • TOC keeps the visitor oriented. Sticky at desktop, scroll-spy highlights current section. Visitor never loses track of where they are in long-form copy.
  • Last-updated stamp builds trust. Policy pages without a date look stale or evasive — the stamped roundel makes the freshness a brand signal, not an afterthought.
  • Brand voice stays present. Shopkeeper voice carries the section heads and intro paragraphs; the dense clause-by-clause body may go slightly plainer where compliance language is needed, but the voice doesn’t switch off entirely.
  • Related pages strip closes the loop. A visitor finishing a policy page either has their answer or needs to ask further — the strip serves both with verbatim reuse from BBWD26’s FAQ-teaser pattern.

Voice notes

Old-West shopkeeper voice for hero + section heads + lede paragraphs (“Plain English on getting your money back…”). Body paragraphs stay mostly plain because policy copy needs to be unambiguous, but small voice flourishes carry through (“If something goes wrong — and now and then it does — write to the workshop”). Section heads written in customer-voice (“Items we can’t take back” not “Excluded items”). Last-updated stamp copy is bare: just the date. Related pages cards use action-led titles (“Read more →” not “View details →”).

Render direction

Locked methodology: Maximalist Industrial at the Frontier styleguide (SWD1). Canonical references same as BBWD25 + BBWD26. Author NEW under the same methodology, but the longform-body block introduces a light atmospheric breather on light rodeo — the methodology’s “prune ornament, not type” principle (already used on MWD5’s Choose Your Game and MWD9’s Recently Viewed sections). The hero and dividers and chrome stay full register; only the body band shifts to light.

Hero-distinct rule: Generic page reuses content-page-hero from BBWD25 — INTENDED reuse. This third reuse of the block (About → Contact → Generic) confirms it’s the substrate the rule predicted.

Desktop composition (locked brand rule, 2026-06-07)

War Dungeon is desktop-first. Mockups render at 1440px first; mobile is graceful collapse. Paired row: body ⅔ + TOC sidebar ⅓, both visible together at desktop. Related pages strip is 3-up full-width. Hero is two-column (eyebrow/title/lede LEFT, plated photo OR pattern-only fill RIGHT). Mobile collapse: 980 (TOC drops to collapsible accordion above the body), 880 (related-pages 2-up), 720 (related-pages 1-up), 480 (panel widths simplify, ornament stays).

Technical constraints

  • Page max-width 1440px. Base font size 20px. Long-form body line-height 1.6 (vs default 1.4) for reading density.
  • TOC sidebar uses IntersectionObserver for scroll-spy section highlighting.
  • Anchor links smooth-scroll with scroll-behavior: smooth and a scroll-margin-top offset to clear the sticky header.
  • TOC at mobile collapses to a single accordion (“On this page”) that expands above the body — visitors don’t lose orientation at small widths.
  • Last-updated date is operator-editable per page (ACF field on the page CPT at Phase 2).
  • Section heads carry stable id attributes derived from their slug — anchor links survive content edits as long as the section title doesn’t change.
  • Related pages strip links are operator-curated per page at Phase 2.
